I will be frank, I always liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple clicks and a client can set an order with a freelancer based on a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, however, it comes at a price. A huge one.
This is just one the very few freelance platforms in which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and outright blackmail sellers any way that they like.
In this informative article, I'd like to talk about a recent bad experience for a vendor on Fiverr, and also I decided to give up on the platform entirely.
(I have been guiding her on building a respectable account, and the way to go above and beyond with every last order. Everything stated is her doing, I'm just an observer.)
In this case, she had only gotten another $5 sequence on her emblem gig, which seemed to be similar to another... or so we thought.
The purchase was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had included a bonus logo concept in addition to the source file (that is usually part of the costlier bundle ).
The client"loved" one of the concepts so we proceeded to send her the appropriates file sizes, as mentioned in the final description. Shortly after, things got a little weird.
The customer came back asking for a social media kit to go with the logo, something which is obviously not available as a member of her gig.
In my advice, my girlfriend chose to provide the extra work, despite not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the customer responded with even more demands and a few adjustments to the social media files.
At this time, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this person, they have been clearly overstepping their bounds here.
That is when the client went from only overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took some time to ponder a reply and reach out to Fiverr support for assistance, the client did eventually go ahead and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to show her he/she wasn't ? Fiverr.com scam? Read our User Reviews! - Always up-to-date! kidding.
Soon after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the service query, the client paid an additional $10 for the social networking kit.
Obviously, the payment was accompanied by yet another danger.
Now, all I wished to do was go all Liam Neeson and search this person down so I could repeatedly punch them from the face.
But, at the time, I had hope that Fiverr support could step in and save my girlfriend from that PITA client.
When the response came from Fiverr service, they told that they couldn't Fiverr review from a level 1 US Account / Forexcrow Services force the buyer to accept the purchase.
Alright, that is reasonable enough. (though the purchaser already accepted it, technically.)
In addition they proposed drawing up a list for the buyer to reveal the job has been done in accordance to the gig requirements.
Frankly, this reply just didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend hauled in her initial email that the customer was hoping to extort her for free work out the agreed terms, by leaving a negative inspection if she didn't comply.
Of course, it wasn't about the job, it had been all about seeking protection in an abusive client who was intentionally pushing his luck.
Their answer did not give article either of us any assurance that Fiverr really knew that, and even at this point we felt as though they did not want to get involved.
At precisely the same time, she responded to the buyers newest threat, explaining that she would not continue to function with them unless the feedback has been changed/removed.
(Again, this can be comments which has been clearly and intentionally made to intimidate her into providing work outside of the agreed conditions .)
An honest request by anyones standards, correct? Well, apparently not.
As opposed to acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this point, Fiverr immediately turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all the rules.
Because she had asked the client to modify their opinions, she was no more entitled to any help from Fiverr assistance.
You can imagine how we felt studying this.
What the purchaser had done and said before her final message has been now being swept under the rug -- as if never happened at all.
Fiverr essentially decided to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an account she had worked so difficult to build up.
If everything that happened wasn't troubling enough, it is knowing that this person is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless vendors without a shred of repercussion.
And think, there are loads of buyers doing precisely this on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
Well, as most this was happening, I did some investigating to find out whether any other sellers went through a similar ordeal with an individual purchaser.
Quite quickly, I discovered a range of almost identical cases on the Fiverr forum obsolete years back. (that's right, years.)
This is clearly something that's been happening for quite a while and it all stems from providing buyers too much power over vendors.
When there's one thing I've learned about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how much time that you put into a project, or just how hard you've worked on itor perhaps how well you handled communication during a dispute, if it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even when it's a clear cut case in your favour, there's still every chance the customer will come out on top. All it takes it one little thing you"did wrong" according to their conditions of support and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Looking at the signs, it is clear to me Fiverr is well aware of what's going on, yet remains willing to settle back and let it happen.
A Final Message To Fiverr. If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, I urge you to seriously reevaluate your current support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that someone can set all that time and effort in building up an account and over-delivering at every conceivable opportunity, just to be shot down from the very people that you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I do not wish to leave Fiverr. I really don't want to be telling people to prevent your system.
But after everything that has happened, you haven't left me any decision.
Until something is done in order to shield freelancers from using this sort of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this article and do anything I can to prevent others from falling victim to your one-sided support staff.
The second you actually do something about it and also provide freelancers a means to fight back, I'll be happy to update this post.
